Vote to pass a joint resolution that proposes an amendment to the state constitution which would amend term limits and prohibit government officials from accepting gifts from lobbyists.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits a member of the General Assembly or such individual’s staff, spouse, or dependant children from accepting any expenditure from a lobbyist (Sec. A).

  • Defines “expenditure” as including, not being limited to, the following (Sec. A):

    • A payment made;

    • A charge, debt, bill, cost, or expense incurred;

    • A gift, honorarium, or item of value given, including food and beverage;

    • A price, fee, or charge that is waived, reduced, or forgiven; and

    • A loan or debt with is cancelled, reduced, or forgiven.

  • Prohibits any individual from serving as an elected official in the General Assembly for more than a total of 16 years (Sec. A).

  • Prohibits any member of the General Assembly from serving for more than 4 years in each of the following positions (Sec. A):

    • Speaker of the House;

    • President pro tempore of the Senate;

    • House majority leader;

    • House minority leader;

    • Senate majority leader; and

    • Senate minority leader.
