Vote to pass a bill that prohibits schools from advertising food and beverages that do not meet minimum federal and state governmental nutrition standards.

Highlights:

• Prohibits schools from advertising food or beverages that may not be sold on the school campus during the school day (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the food and beverages that are not allowed on school campuses are those that do not meet the minimum nutrition standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Rhode Island board of education, and local school committees (Sec. 1).

• Exempts advertisements already on a permanent fixture until the permanent fixture is removed or replaced (Sec. 1).

• Exempts advertising that occurs pursuant to a contract or lease entered into or renewed prior to the effective date of this bill (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that this bill becomes effective immediately upon passage (Sec. 2).
