Vote to pass a bill that prohibits cities from enacting "sanctuary" policies for undocumented immigrants.

Highlights:

• Requires law enforcement agencies to use best efforts to support the enforcement of federal immigration law (Sec. 2, Part II).

• Definies “sanctuary policy” as a law, policy, practice, procedure, or custom adopted or permitted by a state entity, local government entity, or law enforcement agency which conflicts federal immigration law, or which knowingly prohibits or impedes a law enforcement agency from communicating or cooperating with a federal immigration agency with respect to immigration enforcement (Sec. 2, Part I).

• Permits a “sanctuary policymaker” to be suspended or removed from office (Sec. 2, Part III).

• Defines “sanctuary policymaker” as a state or local elected official or appointed official of a local governmental entity governing body who has voted for, allowed to be implemented, or voted against repeal or prohibition of a sanctuary policy who wilfully engages in a pattern of non-cooperation with a federal immigration agency (Sec. 2, Part I).

• Specifies that any officer, state entity, local government entity, or law enforcement agency who violates this policy must pay a civil penalty of between $1,000-$5,000 to the state for each day that the sanctuary policy was in effect commencing October 1, 2019, or th date the sanctuary policy was first enacted, whichever is later (Sec. 2, Part III).
