Title: Increases the State Minimum Wage

Vote to pass a bill that increases the state minimum wage.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits any person, firm, or corporation from employing any someone at an hourly rate lower than that set in the federal minimum wage law, or the following, whichever is higher (Sec. 1):

    • $10 per hour, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021;

    • $11 per hour, from January 1, 2022 and thereafter if an employer offers at least 10 paid sick days to an employee;

    • $12 per hour if an employer does not offer 10 paid sick days to an employee after January 1, 2022.

  • Defines “paid sick day” as a paid absence from an employee’s duties for personal medical reasons (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires that tipped employees of a restaurant, hotel, motel, inn or cabin, or ballroom who customarily and regularly receive more than $30 per month in tips directly from customers will receive a base rate from the employer of no less than $4 per hour, and if the actual rate an employee receives is less than $12 per hour, the employer will make up the difference (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires that tipped employees who are licensed as secondary game operators and who customarily and regularly receive more than $30 a month in tips directly from customers, will receive a base rate from the employer of no less than $7.25 per hour, and if the actual rate an employee receives is less than $12 per hour, the employer will make up the difference (Sec. 1).
