Title: Requires State Published Dyslexia Guidebooks in Public Schools
Vote to pass a bill that requires dyslexia guidebooks be available to parents, teachers, and school administrators for public school students who struggle with reading.
Requires the International Dyslexia Association - Wisconsin Branch, and the Wisconsin State Reading Association to review and update the guidebook related to dyslexia and related conditions developed under this 2019 Wisconsin act (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the Department of Education’s internet site shall provide free access to the guidebook related to dyslexia (Sec. 2).
Defines “dyslexia” as a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin, characterized by difficulties with accurate and fluent word recognition and poor spelling and decoding abilities (Sec. 3).
Authorizes the state superintendent of public instruction to establish a 19 member advisory committee to develop a draft guidebook related to dyslexia and related conditions (Sec. 3).
Requires the International Dyslexia Association - Wisconsin Branch submit to the state superintendent of public instruction a list of 3 individuals it recommends to serve as co-chairperson of the advisory committee no later than 30 days after the effective date of this act (Sec. 3).
Requires the state superintendent to within 60 days of the effective date of this act, choose from the list of 3, an individual to serve as the co-chairperson of the advisory committee (Sec. 3).
