Vote to pass a bill that authorizes medical marijuana to be prescribed in lieu of opiate painkillers.

Highlights:

• Defines a “disabling medical condition” to include “a condition for which a physician could prescribe an opioid” (Sec. 1).

• Requires that for a patient under 18 years old with a disabling medical condition to use medical marijuana, 2 physicians have to diagnose the patient as having a disabling medical condition, and if the recommending physician is not the patient’s primary care physician, the recommending physician must review the records of a diagnosing physician or a licensed mental health provider acting within their scope of practice (Sec. 1).

• Requires a patient under 18 years old with a disabling medical condition to only use medical marijuana in a non-smokable form when using it on the preschool, primary, or secondary school grounds they are enrolled in, or on a school bus or at a school-sponsored event (Sec. 1).
