A vote to pass a bill that prohibits license suspensions for unpaid parking tickets.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the Secretary of State to rescind the suspension or cancellation of a person’s driving privileges in certain contexts including, but not limited to: (Sec. 6-209)

    • The person has been convicted of theft of motor fuel;

    • The person has been diagnosed with a mental disability or disease since issuance of the license;

    • The person was convicted of violating the Liquor Control Act of 1934 or a similar provision of a local ordinance;

    • The person fails to pay any fine or penalty due as a result of 10 or more violations of a municipality’s or county’s vehicular standing, parking, or compliance regulations; 

    • The person fails to pay any fine or penalty from a final order issued by the Authority relating directly or indirectly to 5 or more toll violations, toll evasions, or both; 

    • The person convicted of criminal trespass to vehicles proves that they did not exercise actual physical control of the vehicle at the time of their violation; or

    • The person proved that they did not exercise actual physical control of the vehicle at the time of their violation of certain sections of this Code.

  • Requires the Secretary of State to revoke driving privileges of any driver upon report of the driver’s conviction of committing any offenses while maintaining physical control of the vehicle during the time of the offense (Sec. 6-205).
