Vote to pass a concurrent resolution that requires President Donald Trump to cease the use of the US Armed Services in or against Iran until he receives Congressional approval.

Highlights:

• Requires the president to stop the use of US Armed Forces to engage in hostilities in or against Iran or any part of its government or military, unless (Sec. 1):

• Congress has declared war or enacted a specific authorization for use of the Armed Forces; or

• Such use of the Armed Forces is necessary and appropriate to defend against an imminent armed attack upon the US, its territories or possessions, or its Armed Forces, consistent with the requirements of the War Powers Resolution. 

• Specifies that nothing in this act may be construed to (Sec. 1):

• Prevent the president from using military force against al Qaeda or associated forces; 

• Limit the obligations of the executive branch set forth in the War Powers Resolution;

• Affect the provisions of a Congressional act or joint resolution that specifically authorizes the use of US Armed Forces to engage in hostilities against Iran or any part of its government or military that is enacted after this resolution’s date of adoption;

• Prevent the use of necessary and appropriate military force to defend US allies and partners if authorized by Congress, consistent with the requirements of the War Powers Resolution; or 

• Authorize the use of military force.
