Title: Increases Cancer Coverage for Firefighters

Vote to pass a bill that increases healthcare coverage for firefighters.

Highlights:

 

  • Expands the causes of diseases, infirmities, or impairments of a firefighter’s health presumed to be an occupational disease, to include ovarian and breast cancer (Sec. 1).

  • Repeals the requirement of needing to be explicitly exposed to a known carcinogen reasonably related to the cancer, and to inform the department of the exposure, in order for the disease, infirmity, or impairment to be considered caused by or to qualify as an occupational disease (Sec. 1).

  • Expands those who can qualify to have an occupational disease to firefighters of peace officers currently in service (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that the presumptions of an occupational disease are conclusive and irrebuttable if the specified cancers or diseases are present and are deemed to arise from employment, and cigarettes or tobacco products are not a substantial contributing cause in the development of the cancer (Sec. 1).
