Title: Establishes a Task Force for Reparations to African Americans
Vote to amend and pass a bill that establishes a task force to study and develop reparation proposals for African Americans.
Establishes the Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans (Sec. 1, Article 2).
Establishes that the task force will be comprised of 8 members as follows (Sec. 1, Article 2):
2 members appointed by the governor;
3 members appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate; and
3 members appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly.
Requires the task force to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the legislature no later than one year after its first meeting (Sec. 1, Article 2).
Requires that the members of the task force represent communities of color and have experience working in racial justice (Sec. 1, Article 2).
Requires the governor to call the task force’s first meeting by June 1, 2021 (Sec. 1, Article 2).
Authorizes the task force to hold hearings, request attendance and testimony of witnesses, and enter into contracts for conducting research, preparing reports and other appropriate activities (Sec. 1, Article 4).
Establishes that this bill shall remain in effect until July 1, 2023, and as of that date is repealed (Sec. 1, Article 7).
