Title: Equality Act
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system.
Prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including (Sec. 2):
Public accommodations and facilities;
Education;
Federal funding;
Employment;
Housing;
Credit; and
The jury system.
Specifies that failure to follow the aforementioned provisions violates the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution (Sec. 2).
Expands the definition of public accommodations in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include places or establishments that provide (Sec. 3):
Exhibitions, recreation, exercise, amusement, gatherings, or displays;
Goods, services, or programs; or
Transportation services.
Authorizes the Attorney General and Department of Justice to intervene in equal protection actions in federal court on account of sexual orientation or gender identity (Sec. 5).
Prohibits an individual from being denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual's gender identity (Sec. 9).
Amends the definition of discrimination and segregation in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to specify that sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity are among the prohibited categories (Sec. 11).
