Vote to pass a bill that requires 10% of agricultural produce to be grown locally within the state of Hawaii.
Establishes that by January 1st, 2025, locally grown produce will constitute 10% of total produce purchased by the department (Sec. 1).
Specifies that locally grown produce will increase by 8% every 5 years until 2050 when local produce constitutes a minimum of 50% of produce purchased by the department (Sec. 1).
Requires each department of the state to submit a report at least 20 days before the regular session on the department’s progress towards the above benchmarks including (Sec. 1 b):
The amount of produce purchased last calendar year; and
The amount of locally grown produce purchased last calendar year; and
The percentage of locally grown produce purchased last calendar year; and
If the department met the above benchmark and if not an explanation why it was not met.
