Title: Amends State Reading Readiness Assessments
Vote to pass a bill that amends state reading readiness assessments.
Requires students submit reading readiness assessments to determine characteristics of dyslexia (Sec. 2).
Defines “Dyslexia” as a specific learning disability that is all of the following (Sec. 2):
Neurological in origin;
Characterized by difficulties with accurate and fluent word recognition and poor spelling and decoding abilities that typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language; and
Often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities.
Defines “reading readiness assessment” as a means fundamental skills screening assessment, universal screening assessment, or diagnostic assessment (Sec. 2).
Establishes that this act shall take effect July 1, 2022 (Sec. 6).
