Vote to pass a bill that prohibits school mask mandates

Highlights:

• Prohibits a public school from imposing the following, including (Article 8B, Sec. 18-3):

• A COVID-19 mask or face covering requirement;

• A mandatory COVID-19 testing requirement on any asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic student or employee; and

• A requirement that a student or employee quarantine or isolate unless the student or employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

• Specifies that only parents or legal guardians shall have the authority to determine whether their child will wear a mask or face covering on school premises or during extra curricular activities (Article 8B, Sec. 18-3).

• Requires that any period of quarantine end after a student or employee obtains a negative COVID-19 test result, or after they have completed 5 days of quarantine (Article 8B, Sec. 18).

• Establishes that nothing in this act shall prohibit an individual from wearing a mask or face covering (Article 8B, Sec. 18-3).

• Authorizes any parent or legal guardian of a student who is 18 years old or older to file a declaratory judgment action seeking an injunction against any act or practice that violates this act (Article 8B, Sec. 18-4).
