Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the use of virtual schooling in case of emergencies.
Authorizes public schools to apply to the Board of Education for remote academy status (Sec. 2).
Prohibits public schools from providing the majority of instructional hours through remote instruction, unless that school is classified as a remote academy (Sec. 2).
Requires parental consent prior to the enrollment of a student in a remote academy (Sec. 2).
Authorizes school administration to reassign a student to be in-person if they determine that such an environment would contribute to the student’s academic success (Sec. 2).
Requires remote academies to provide access to hardware and software needed to participate, internet access, a learning management platform, and technical support (Sec. 2).
Specifies processes and requirements for remote academy applications (Sec. 2).
Requires board of education to review academic outcomes, student retention, and attendance rates for all remote academies (Sec. 2).
