Vote to pass a bill that expands mental health services in schools

Highlights:

• Requires public schools to designate at least one administrator per school building who can direct students and families towards behavioral health resources (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Department of Education to provide mental health first aid trainings to educators, including (Sec. 2):

• Information on local mental health centers;

• Information on how to de-escalate mental health crises; and

• Information on how to recognize signs of mental illness.

• Establishes a program to award grants to public schools that show innovation in mental health first aid, early literacy, quality instruction, digital education, or another area (Sec. 3).
