Title: Establishes Parents' Bill of Rights
Vote to pass a bill that establishes a Parents' Bill of Rights.
Authorizes a parent to, without state or local interference (Sec. 1):
Review all classroom materials to be used in their child’s instruction;
Access all school reports related to their child;
Access graduation requirements and retention policies; and
Request that their child not be included in school photographs, videos, or voice recordings.
Authorizes a parent to appeal to the Board of Education if any of these rights are not granted (Sec. 1).
Requires schools to post information on their websites regarding (Sec. 1):
How parents can review their child’s records;
How parents can review instructional materials;
Procedures for parent objection to instructional materials;
Procedures for a parent to withdraw their child from a sex education class; and
Procedures for a parent to request that their child not appear in school photographs, videos, or voice recordings.
