Title: Establishes Penalties for Improper Firearm Storage
Vote to pass a bill establishes penalties for improper firearm storage.
Requires individuals store firearms either completely unloaded and in a locked manner rendering it incapable of firing or in a locked box or container (Sec. 9).
Establishes the following penalties for individuals guilty of improper firearm storage, including (Sec. 9):
A misdemeanor, with a $500 fine and/or 93 day max prison sentence for improper firearm storage in instances where a minor obtains a firearm and possessess or exhibits the firearm in a public place or in the presence of another individual in a careless, reckelss or threatening manner;
A felony, with a fine of u to $5,000 and 5 year max prison sentence if the minor obtains and discharges the firearm and inflicts injury upon themselves or another individual.
A felony, with a fine of u to $7,500 and 10 year max prison sentence if the minor obtains and discharges the firearm and inflicts serious impairment of a body function upon themselves or another individual.
A felony, with a fine of u to $10,000 and 15 year max prison sentence if the minor obtains and discharges the firearm and inflicts death upon themselves or another individual.
Exempts all sitautions in which the minor obtained consent from their parent or guardian and is authorized to possess or use a firearm (Sec. 9).
Defines “minor” as an individual under 18 years of age (Sec. 9).
