Vote to concur with senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes DACA recipients to become police officers in the state of Illinois.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes the sheriff of any county or municipality to hire any person to act as deputy sheriff or special policeman if they are (Sec. 3):

    • Legally authorized under federal law to work in the United States and is authorized under federal law to possess a firearm; and

    • Has been deferred by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process and is authorized under federal law to possess a firearm.

  • Requires that any person appointed (Sec. 3):

    • Be a citizen of the United States;
