Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the school community eligibility provision maximization act.

Highlights:

• Specifies that this act shall be known as the School Community Eligibility Provision Maximization Act (Sec. 1). 

• Alleges that the Nebraska state legislature believes that every student deserves access to healthy food during the school day (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies the definitions applicable to the community eligibility provision (Sec. 2). 

• Specifies that each school that has qualifying students above 50% for the program shall operate under the community eligibility provision to help make the most of the federal reimbursement for breakfasts and lunches (Sec. 4). 

• Authorizes a waiver of the requirements of this act if the school district is able to show that the requirements are not financially viable for the district (Sec. 5). 

• Authorizes the Department to provide technical assistance to any school district that is granted a waiver under this section to help them meet community eligibility provisions in future years (Sec. 5). 

• Specifies that nothing in this act shall prevent a school district for collecting information from the parent or guardian of a student to determine eligibility for other services (Sec. 8). 

• Authorizes the state board of education to adopt rules and regulations in order to best carry out this act (Sec. 9).
