Title: Establishes a Process for Suspension and Expulsion of Public School Students
Vote to pass a bill that establishes a process for suspension and expulsion of public school students and requires a disciplinary hearing following long-term suspension or expulsion in Alabama.
Establishes a process for suspension and expulsion of public school students in the state and authorizes students to retain their own representation in the process (Sec. 1).
Requires a disciplinary hearing for students following long-term suspension or expulsion in Alabama, that considers the following, including (Sec. 1):
The age of the student;
The disciplinary history of the student;
The seriousness of the violation or behavior; or
Whether a lesser intervention would appropriately address the behavior of the student.
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect October 1, 2024 (Sec. 2).
