Title: Informed Abortion Consent
Vote to pass a bill that requires the voluntary and informed written consent of a woman seeking an abortion at least 24 hours prior to the procedure.
- Requires the physician to provide the pregnant woman with information on the medical risks of abortion, alternatives to the procedure, the probable gestational age of the unborn child/fetus, available medical assistance, and the obligations of the father [sec. 1(1)(a-b)]. - Requires the woman and her doctor to sign a form on the day of an abortion indicating that the in-person meeting took place and that the woman received all necessary information [sec. 1(1)(d)(1-2)]. - Allows the state inspector general, or other authorized officials, to request and inspect an informed consent record at any time [sec. 1(1)(e)(5)]. - Requires informational materials to be printed in both English and Spanish [sec. 1(2)(a)]. - Classifies a violation of these requirements as a Class A Misdemeanor [sec. 2(30)].
