Title: Removing Wiretap Restrictions

Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that allows judges to authorize up to three extensions (previously capped at one) to an ex parte order authorizing law enforcement to conduct wiretapping operations.
Highlights:
- Appoints the assistant district attorney or chief deputy district attorney as the official designee of the district attorney for the purposes of applying for a wiretap authorization when the district attorney is absent [sec. 1 (1) (c) (I)]. - Appoints the Chief Deputy Attorney General or Deputy Attorney General as the official designee of the Attorney General for the purposes of applying for a wiretap authorizaion when the Attorney General is absent [sec. 1 (1) (c) (II)]. - Requires judges to include a provision in each extension mandating that the interception be performed in a timely manner, be conducted in such a way as to minimize the interception, and be terminated after thirty days or after attaining the authorized objective [sec. 1 (6)]. -Amendment No. 1 was sponsored by the Senate Judiciary Committee which established a limit of three extensions. -Amendment No. 2 was sponsored by Senator Tapia which supplemented the provision listing the official designee's of the District Attorney and Attorney General.
