Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that allows individuals with multiple 'driving while intoxicated' convictions to apply for the restoration of their driver's license after ten years if they meet certain requirements.

Highlights:

-Provides that an individual whose license is restored under the provisions of this bill must drive with a blood alcohol content of 0.00 for the following seven years (Sec. 1). -Makes restoration contingent upon an individual not having any motor vehicle, drug, alcohol, or other criminal charges for the ten years preceding the application for reinstatement, as well as being able to prove that he or she does not use alcohol, illegal drugs, or excessive amounts of prescription drugs (Sec. 3). -Applies to applications for reinstatement filed on or after December 1, 2009, and expires on December 1, 2014 (Sec. 7).

NOTE: THIS IS A SUBSTITUTE BILL, MEANING THE LANGUAGE OF THE ORIGINAL BILL HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE DEGREE TO WHICH THE SUBSTITUTE BILL TEXT DIFFERS FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE TEXT CAN VARY GREATLY.
