Priority Issues:
My guiding political principles will allow me to ask the following questions with regard to each new piece of legislation or proposed government action.
Does the proposed government action result in more freedom, or less freedom for the people of Utah?
Is the proposed government action constitutional?
Could someone outside of the government perform the action?
Can someone closer to those impacted take the action? (i.e. city counsel, mayor, etc.)
Does the action interfere with fundamental personal liberties?
Is the action affordable and sustainable for both our state and for local Utah residents?
Is the action a fiscally responsible choice, and will it result in better stewardship?
Can we reallocate funds from inefficient programs in order to provide greater funding to more important programs? (i.e. such as reallocating existing state funds for the K-12 Education budget without raising taxes?)
These are a few of the important questions that I will be asking when I examine legislation when entering the House of Representatives, so that we can hold ourselves accountable to fiscally conservative policy, and to constitutional principles.
