Reason for Seeking Public Office:
Dear Voter,
I'm running for re-election to the North Carolina Supreme Court, and I'd like to tell you why I believe I've earned your support.
During my six years of service on the North Carolina Court of Appeals and my seven years on the Supreme Court, I've focused on making the fair decision in every case, no matter how difficult it is. I never bring any personal or political bias into the courtroom.
And I understand the things regular people deal with every day. More than anyone else on the Supreme Court, I know the real challenges that real people face. Challenges with their jobs, their families, and their property. Challenges with safety, kids, and schools. These are the things you want a judge to decide fairly. These are the issues that I decide fairly.
I've worked hard my whole life. I remember when I was in elementary school -- in the mornings I would carry my little brother to my neighbors' to look out for him, then go back home to cook breakfast for my other brothers before I went to school.
I went to public schools from kindergarten through high school. I waited on tables all four years in college. The hardest work I've ever done was when I was a single mom with two young kids, trying to make a living.
That's why, when I got out of law school, I went to work helping textile workers all over the state who had lung trouble from cotton dust. I'm proud to have helped shape the modern legal protections for factory workers.
Before I became a judge, I practiced law for 24 years. In my law practice I represented people. Not big companies. Not big government.
Fairness. Understanding real people and real families. That's what I've worked hard to provide during my 37 years of legal experience, and that's what I'll continue to do. You deserve no less.
I'd appreciate your support.
Thank you.
Justice Robin Hudson
