  • Rated 100% by National Right to Life Committee. (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 36 "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "I am unable to support the so-called "Women's Health Protection Act." This bill completely disregards the 10th Amendment of the Constitution and would allow the federal government to overrule state laws on abortions. This bill allows for abortions at any stage until birth, for any reason. Abortion is a complex issue, and one in which thoughtful and reasonable people often disagree. In the State of Nevada, voters directly decided through a referendum in 1990 that a woman should be allowed to have an abortion performed by a physician within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy, and a physician may perform an abortion after 24 weeks only to preserve the life or health of the mother. Because this was voted on directly by the people of Nevada, it can only be repealed through a referendum. However, under the Women's Health Protection Act, if the U.S. Attorney General were to determine even Nevada's present law as too restrictive, this bill would give the federal government the authority to overturn what the majority of Nevadans have voted for and approved. Therefore, I cannot support this blatant federal overreach and disregard of Nevada voters." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "I met with the Nevada Orthopaedic Society to discuss a number of important issues, including safeguarding healthcare providers from impending Medicare payment cuts and removing obstacles to care for Nevadans on Medicare Advantage plans." (twitter.com)
  • Rated 11% by Alliance for Retired Americans. (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against S 610 "Protecting Medicare and American Farmers from Sequester Cuts Act." (votesmart.org)
  • "It is no surprise that in this moment, when it's crucial for Congress to come together to identify bipartisan solutions to address police misconduct and strengthen the accountability and transparency of our law enforcement agencies, that those addicted to partisan politics have rejected attempts to work on legislation that could be signed into law and make a meaningful difference. The Speaker has chosen to move a partisan messaging bill that fails to reflect the viewpoints of all stakeholders, creates the potential for unintended consequences, and will actually undermine the ability of law enforcement agencies to keep the communities they serve safe." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 1280 "George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021." (votesmart.org)
  • "I was proud to support the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022. Every year, Congress must pass the annual defense authorization, and I was glad to see that the bipartisan tradition of ensuring our military is adequately funded and supported was upheld. Included in this year's NDAA is a 2.7% pay increase for our servicemembers, authorization for the procurement of over $1.3 billion in new aircraft, equipment, and weapons, an authorization of over $6.2 billion for the Pacific Deterrence Initiative to counter Chinese aggression, and full funding for the European Deterrence Initiative to counter Russia. Furthermore, the FY22 NDAA authorizes $250 million to conduct counter terrorism operations in Afghanistan and requires the Department of Defense to immediately submit a plan to Congress on how it will support the evacuation of American citizens still in Afghanistan." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Just voted in support of the #NDAA for FY20, a critical defense package that strengthens our national security, supports our brave men and women in uniform, veterans, and their families." (twitter.com)
  • Rated 100% by Center for Security Policy. (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of S 1605 "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022." (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 3684 "Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act." (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 266 "Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "Successfully influencing the Small Business Administration to repeal its prohibition on small gaming businesses to have access to the Paycheck Protection Program at the height of COVID-19 shutdowns, saving thousands of Nevada jobs in a time of unprecedented economic uncertainty." (amodeifornevada.com)
  • The Nevada Independent: "I'm not going to say, ‘Gee, I wish we hadn't done that COVID stuff.’ It was phenomenally important to provide those payroll protection loans that kept people working and businesses open while everything was shut down," Amodei said. "And so, yeah, I think that was the right thing to do." (thenevadaindependent.com)

  • "Ensuring American energy independence is essential right now – not only to help address inflation and supply shortages, but also as a matter of national security. I will continue to advocate for the proliferation of America’s domestic energy production." (twitter.com)
  • Voted against HR 5376 "Inflation Reduction Act of 2022" (votesmart.org)
  • "We've broken the record for the worst economic report in modern times. Inflation, up 7.9%, is at a 40 year high. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the price of gas has increased by 38%, the price of steak has increased by 17%, and the cost of staying in a hotel has increased by 29%. And yet, the ever-dysfunctional, irresponsible, and agenda-driven majority party in Congress and the White House continue to pursue progressive, Green New Deal policies, further driving up prices of everyday, essential goods. But I guess as long as you don't need food, shelter, or to buy gas, everything is just perfect." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 2547 "Comprehensive Debt Collection Improvement Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 5746 "Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Rated 84% by American Energy Alliance. (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "The energy sector is crucial to our economic growth and high energy costs have a major impact on job creation. We have an abundant supply of natural resources in Nevada and across the country that we must use to meet our nation's energy requirements. We need policies that allow us to harness our own resources, develop new sources of energy, and create jobs here at home. [...] In Nevada, new sources of energy, such as solar and geothermal are showing promise. Geothermal in particular brings jobs and growth to Nevada with 20 plants in operation providing clean, reliable electrical capacity to the grid and significant additional capacity under development." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 4447 "Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy Act of 2019." (votesmart.org)
  • "Ensuring American energy independence is essential right now – not only to help address inflation and supply shortages, but also as a matter of national security. I will continue to advocate for the proliferation of America’s domestic energy production." (twitter.com)
  • Rated 97% by Independent Petroleum Association of America. (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Signed Letter to Chair Neumayr "We write in support of the Council on Environmental Quality's (CEQ) efforts to modernize the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This rulemaking represents the first comprehensive overhaul since the NEPA regulations were originally promulgated more than 40 years ago. These critical reforms will bring needed clarity to our nation's environmental laws, preserve the competitive edge that powers our economy, and foster continued stewardship of our environment and natural resources. Congress wrote NEPA with the straightforward, significant goal of establishing a review framework "under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony, and fulfill the social, economic, and other requirements of present and future generations of Americans." However, over the years, through misguided regulation, and presidential directive, the NEPA process has strayed from these objectives. Now, unending litigation and mountains of paperwork define a permitting process that stretches along an indefinite timeline." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 1119 "SENSE Act." (votesmart.org)
  • Rated 92% by National Rifle Association (NRA) (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 1446 "Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021." (votesmart.org)
  • "One thing is clear: we must take responsible steps to keep firearms out of the hands of mentally disturbed individuals and criminals attempting to circumvent the federal background check process. When taking action to keep Americans safe, however, we must also ensure that we are not creating unintended consequences for the law-abiding citizens who responsibly exercise their right to bear arms. Millions of law-abiding, gun-owning American citizens go to sleep each night without harming others, their families, or themselves." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • “If this were really about school safety, that is the first thing the majority party would take a look at in terms of sound policy solutions. For example, the Secure Every School and Protect our Nation’s Children Act would focus on assessing schools for weaknesses in security and mental health services; the Police Officers Protecting Children Act would allow law enforcement officers or retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm onto school grounds if approved by the local school board; and the Luke and Alex School Safety Act, which would require the Department of Homeland Security to establish a Federal Clearinghouse on School Safety Best Practices. These are all Republican-proposed measures to address this issue, which I have cosponsored, never considered by the House majority party." (amodei.house.gov)
  • Voted against S 2938 "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 1425 "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 6201 "Families First Coronavirus Response Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "Unlike H.R. 3, which is a sweeping expansion of government control over patients' health care, the House also voted today on a bipartisan alternative to lowering prescription drug costs. Offered as a substitute amendment to H.R. 3, H.R. 19, the Lower Costs, More Cures Act, would actually lower the cost of prescription drugs through provisions that will encourage the innovation of new cures, promote more low-cost options for patients, and crack down on drug companies who attempt to cheat the patent system. More specifically, H.R. 19 would place a cap on seniors' out-of-pocket drug costs for the first time ever, make insulin more affordable, and cut the cost of drug administration for Medicare beneficiaries by as much as half." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted against HR 6833 "The Affordable Insulin Now Act" (votesmart.org)
  • "Mark believes in border security and protecting the rule of law, and that the situation now at the southern border is a humanitarian and national security disaster." (amodeifornevada.com)
  • Signed Letter to Vice President Harris: "We are alarmed by the staggering number of migrants that have been apprehended while illegally crossing the southwest border during this Administration's first 100 days. As the President's designee to address the flow of migrants at our border, we are writing to seek an update on the results of the 60-day pause and review of border wall construction contracts and to insist that funds appropriated for border security be used immediately to address this crisis. We are extremely concerned that the President ordered a 60-day pause on border wall construction on his first day in office, one of the many Administration policies that are now emboldening cartels to engage in human trafficking, encouraging migrants to undertake an often dangerous journey, and putting our nation's security at risk." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "The status quo with respect to border security and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is unacceptable," said Congressman Amodei. "I supported this bill because I refused to let perfect be the enemy of good. After 31 years of congressional inaction on immigration reform, and after seeing how hard certain Members have worked to bring this issue to the Floor, I refused to go on the record with a vote against today's bill. When it comes to immigration, I will always choose policy reforms that will improve border security, reprioritize the allocation of immigrant visas, and prevent future illegal immigration over continued inaction." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 6136 "Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018" (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 3003 "No Sanctuary for Criminals Act." (votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 3004 "Kate's Law." (votesmart.org)
  • "Mark understands that immigration issues have many facets and does not let any one perspective outweigh the others. He believes that we must consider a new solution for immigration laws in the United States and fix our broken system. While our nation has the right and laws to control our borders, Mark considers the many factors in changing the system, including the current undocumented population, impact on federal budgets and impact on employers and families. He supports a path to citizenship for those brought here illegally through no fault of their own." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • ""Since I've been here, I've called on congressional leadership to act on immigration reform. I would always rather be criticized for attempting to move this issue toward a solution, than criticized for repeated inaction. Now, Congress has six months to do the job it's supposed to do according to the Constitution. If we're unable to do that job, then 800,000 immigrants will be affected. That number includes individuals currently serving in our Military, working professionals, students, and other contributing members of our society. The last time Congress passed any sort of substantial immigration reform was during the Reagan Administration. As far as I'm concerned, if we're unable to kick it into high gear and follow through on this issue after 31 years -- the blame is rightfully Congress's."" (justfacts.votesmart.org)

  • Voted in favor of S 3522 "Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022" (votesmart.org)
  • "After having devoted almost the entire week with everyone in my Washington office to determine how this bill would affect individual taxpayers, joint filing taxpayers, and businesses, I've come to the conclusion that for the vast majority of federal taxpayers in CD-2 this bill results in simplified filing and a tax cut." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • "Mark has worked to protect 99 percent of Americans from a tax increase on a permanent basis. He's advocated to take the annual guesswork out of tax cuts and make them permanent, including lower rates on capital gains and dividends." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • Voted in favor of HR 1 "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" (votesmart.org)
  • Signed Letter to Ambassador Lighthizer: "As members of the Congressional Wine Caucus, we write to express our strong concern about U.S. retaliatory tariffs on European wine. These retaliatory tariffs cause economic harm to the thousands of U.S. wineries, exporters, importers, retailers, and restaurants who depend on a vibrant, healthy wine market for their livelihood. Any expansion of these tariffs would further exacerbate the harm already caused. As you know, our local wine communities are a driving force in the national economy with a total economic impact of $220 billion annually. The European Union (EU) and the U.S. are the largest wine producing regions in the world and they serve as each other's largest export markets. In fact, the combined wine trade between the U.S. and EU totaled $4.7 billion in 2018." (justfacts.votesmart.org)
  • ""The USMCA secures strong protections and enforcement for all aspects of the agreement, and for the first time in any trade deal, it takes into consideration the countless technological advances that have impacted the way we do business in today's modern economy. By dedicating an entire chapter to digital trade, this legislation will significantly maximize our potential to trade and invest in the digital age. Without a doubt, the USMCA will lead to freer markets, fairer trade, and increased export opportunities for America's farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers. I'm pleased to finally see the USMCA pass the House, and I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to act swiftly on this legislation when we return from the holidays in January."" • "The #USMCA takes effect today. This is great news for Nevada’s workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses, as this historic agreement will lead to freer markets, fairer trade, and robust economic growth in America." (twitter.com)
  • Voted in favor of HR 5430 "United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act." (votesmart.org)

This candidate has responded to a Political Courage Test in a previous election. As a continued effort to provide the American public with factual information on candidates running for public office, these archived responses are made available here.
The Political Courage Test asks candidates which items they will support if elected. It does not ask them to indicate which items they will oppose. Through extensive research of public polling data, we discovered that voters are more concerned with what candidates would support when elected to office, not what they oppose. If a candidate does not select a response to any part or all of any question, it does not necessarily indicate that the candidate is opposed to that particular item.
