Ohio State Legislative Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
Women deserve compassionate care that provides them with complete information on their pregnancy so that they can make informed decisions about their personal health that respect their unborn child's life, health and well being. Every child has a constitutional and moral right to life. Abortion deprives a child of their rights and should not be permissible. This obviously does not extend to the unintentional loss of a child when providing medical treatment with both the mother and unborn child in mind.
Yes a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
No b) In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No c) Do you support tax credits to promote the purchase of electric vehicles?
Free-market principles and natural competitive forces are more effective at spurring investment, growth, opportunity and prosperity than government mandates and more regulation. Government operates more efficiently with common sense policies that encourage personal responsibility, reduce regulation, and limit the scope of bureaucratic agencies. We should look for ways to address problems closer to the issue to minimize tax burden across all sectors.
Yes a) Do you support a limit on campaign contributions to state candidates?
No b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
Yes d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
No e) Do you support automatic voter registration?
Yes f) Should judicial candidates list their party affiliation on general election ballots?
I support government transparency, personal responsibility, and appropriate security measures to ensure all American's voting rights are protected.
Yes a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?

No e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
No f) Do you support eliminating the statute of limitations on cases involving rape?
No g) Do you support requiring state-issued licenses for law enforcement officers?
h) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state income taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
Yes d) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
No e) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Ohio?
No f) Do you support requiring employers to provide paid family leave?
g) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
h) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Ohio?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
No c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Ohio?
d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Ohio high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
I have adamantly opposed the federal Common Core State Standards and supported local control of education during my eight years on the Ohio State Board of Education. Parents should have the ability to choose the best education option for their children, however, I prefer a tax credit to a voucher system. Teachers should be given flexibility to teach creatively and we should eliminate redundant over testing, local districts should retain the ability to determine their teacher's salary and benefits rather than cost being determined through state mandate.
No a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
No c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
Having grown up in agriculture, I know firsthand the importance of maintaining our soil and water resources and their unique ecology's. Good stewardship includes respect for our natural resources and the economy that is the engine powering those resources. In our efforts to preserve and restore a healthier air and water supply, we need to consider the personal and commercial freedoms which often contribute to new technologies advancing our knowledge, usage and conservation of these resources.
No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom after passing gun safety training?
No d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
In my opinion, further restrictions on gun ownership would not help protect public safety, and quite probably do the exact opposite. If attacked, I can not rely on the police arriving instantly to help me, that is why I have a concealed carry permit. I support Constitutional Carry, protection of our due process rights, and the rights of individuals to defend themselves and their loved ones from harm. I oppose red flag laws, state and national gun registries, and increased regulations on responsible gun ownership. I am endorsed by Buckeye Firearms Association and have an Aq NRA rating.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
No b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through Ohio's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
No d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
No f) Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Yes g) Do you support legislation that prohibits gender reassignment surgeries for individuals under the age of 18?
Studies have shown that treatment facilities may be a better option than incarceration for a large number of those struggling with opioid addictions. The public often provides incarceration without reimbursement and successful treatment should be an option for local judges to utilize as an alternative to jail. To make adequate healthcare affordable and accessible to all, we should encourage free market competition in the healthcare industry, decrease bureaucratic involvement by reducing excessive mandates and regulations, and encourage charitable and philanthropic efforts. Parents should retain medical authority over their child with the limited exception of those declared unfit through due process.
No a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Ohio's anti-discrimination laws?
No b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Ohio's anti-discrimination laws?
No c) Do you support greater efforts by Ohio state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
No d) Do you support expanding anti-discrimination laws to include hair textures and protective hairstyles?
The Constitutions of Ohio and of the United States are the overarching laws of the land that define and protect every citizen's rights. As your state representative, I will respect our constitutions and strive to protect our rights from infringement; especially in the critical areas of free speech, religious freedom, and the right to bear arms.
