Corey Foister has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2016 Political Courage Test.
Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I believe people need to make their own important life decisions for themselves when it comes to reproductive health. The government should aid in providing medically accurate information and birth control to all Americans who seek it. I will never support legislation that would undermine basic rights that all women should have. |
Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
The government could cut defense spending by 5% and we will still be as safe as we are today. The inconvenient truth about defense spending is that a sizable margin of our tax dollars goes toward investing in items and equipment that we don't need or is outdated. Politicians want to keep spending more money on defense to give the American people a false sense of security, something I will have the courage to stand up against. Also I would only support a tax increase on the 1%, they need to pay their fair share. |
Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
We need to get big money out of politics because it is hurting our political discourse and makes our elected officials spend more time fundraising instead of legislating and doing the job the people elected them to do. I support the DISCLOSE Act, which would make campaign finances more transparent and ban U.S corporations controlled by foreign interests from making political contributions. Citizens United MUST be overturned, Super PACs and dark money are hurting our democracy. I support a constitutional amendment to undo Citizens United. |
No | Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes | Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No | Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
I am personally against capital punishment and believe that a life sentence for extreme crimes is the best way to act. We must reform our criminal justice system and I will be a strong advocate for change in Congress. I support decriminalizing of cannabis usage and I believe that mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders is a major problem and has destroyed many Americans lives. American shouldn't lead the world in mass incarceration and that $80 billion spent yearly on incarceration should be spent on education and infrastructure. |
