Currently venting and flaring are illegal activities, but they continue to go on due to easily obtained exemptions from the Railroad Commission. We should enforce the law, stop allowing exemptions, and place heavy fines on those companies that ignore or break the law and continue to vent and flare harmful chemicals into the air.
We must uphold the promise of HB3 which put an additional $6.5 billion into our public schools and increased the state share of funding from 38% to 45%. It should be a 50/50 split between state funding and local property taxes used for schools. At the same time, wealthy corporations should be paying their fare share when it comes to property taxes. Without knowing the true value of the properties owned by these wealthy corporations, they are essentially getting a tax break and are not paying their fair share for the human capital they need to operate.
