Maryland Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I oppose any federal funding of abortion. Beyond that, I believe decisions about abortion should be a matter between the woman and her medical doctor. Let the courts sort out the issues of life and liberty, which are both respected as self-evident rights from God. Strong divisions exist on this issue, which means that any law on the subject will not have wide, general agreement, and will not be evenly enforced. Corruption and abuse will arise as a result, just like the attempted lawful prohibition of alcohol.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
We must work to REDUCE the national debt, which is a major impediment to our fundamental function as a self-governing nation. The whole economy and future of our country depends on correcting the reckless, irresponsible spending that has so jeopardized our national security and basic economy. Social Security and Medicare need revision of the tables to assure their intended self-funding operation.
No Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I favor full public disclosure of campaign contributions. But freedom to contribute money as well as time and effort to a political campaign is an important part of freedom in a self-governing society. Control of corruption in public office is better assured by TERM LIMITS to prevent the evil results of career politics and special interests contrary to the best interests of ordinary citizens.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
Defense is a key constitutional duty of our national government. However, the current level seems adequate; In addition, with such huge amounts for defense, it is certain there is waste, fraud and abuse. Better auditing, accountability, and control will help assure more effective spending in this area.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
The least effective way of spending for anything in society is through a remote, detached federal government. Reducing taxes is the best way to stimulate the economy in a natural way by people choosing to invest and spend money in their own individual way. Reducing corporate taxing will boost economy; make companies more able to invest and expand their business; compete with foreign corporations; and ultimately increase tax revenue through the higher revenue to individuals and stockholders that will come from this lower taxing of these corporations.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
There is NO constitutional mandate for ANY federal spending or "standards" in the area of education. Much regulation at the federal level needs to be reduced, if not entirely eliminated, in this area. Federal money into "education" only increases college tuition and the cost of public education by the states. Money goes mostly to bloated administration costs; not to improve learning of students at the classroom level.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
The free economy will gradually adjust the energy needs in the best way possible. That said, CO2 is NOT a toxic gas that needs to be regulated or controlled. However, I do favor some reasonable restrictions of emissions of coal-fired plants, and other industrial waste products. These environmental restrictions are needed to assure clean air and water, but not to regulate naturally occuring gases in the atmosphere, such as CO2. Whatever increase in this CO2 is, in any case, too small to cause a "climate change" or higher temperature problem.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
2nd amendment assures lawful gun ownership. Minimal regulations, however, are acceptable to assure that high-powered weapons of war not be made available in the general public. Licensing federal gun dealers OK, provided they are not unduly restrictive and available to responsible individuals.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Free market choice and competition will assure higher quality and affordability - more than rationing by a federal agency, such as the direction of the Obamacare Act. A vigorous competition and choice among insurance companies will be highly favorable to lower costs and better healthcare that will support the trusting relationship of patient and doctor.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Border security at the southern border (especially), including wall, is vital for US national security, and public safety of American citizens. It will virtually stop stop human and drug trafficking and all the other ills of illegal alien entry into the US across that border. A wall will also encourage more honest government and a better economy for the people of Mexico as well. less corruption from the drug cartels that presently benefit from an "open border" condition.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
The option of military force must not be taken off the table in a dangerous world of those who would threaten harm to the US. However, the use of such force must be limited to extreme and imminent danger; and in concert with other friendly countries to the extent possible. There are many measures, short of military force, that will work to protect our national sovereignty. But appeasement of a hostile power must not be employed - because that only makes the aggressor more aggressive.
Unknown Position Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
My answer is "sometimes" on an country by country basis. In a dangerous world, we can't allow hostile countries to flood the market with cheap goods to promote their alien agenda which makes our economy dependent on them for critical elements of our economic well-being. Tariffs and quotas are one way to assure that our country does not lose is ability to produce medical supplies, drugs, and rare earth mining, that would be vital in a time of crisis. That said, free trade with Democratic countries who share our values is good.
My main issues are to support (1) citizens first (meaning to oppose special interest of partisan politics; stop benefits to illegal aliens over American citizens; work for term limits for members of congress); (2) freedom not socialism (meaning reduce the size and impact of government on the ordinary citizen; free market solutions of government programs); (3) responsible spending for a sound economy (reduce national debt and eliminate budget deficit by re-structuring, reducing, and eliminating costly, unnecessary federal spending programs)
