What is the Political Courage Test?

Iowa Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
It is my strong view that the sacredness of human life from conception to natural death. As your congressman I will support legislation that defends life; similar to the current efforts to achieve a Heart Beat Bill. I will support separate legislation that provides victimized women with genuine care for both their physical and mental health and that offers avenues of healthy choices for the care of their infants upon birth.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Income tax increases do not generate growth. A balanced budget requires private sector economic growth and reduced government spending that is balanced against projected revenue. Social Security and Medicare are entitlements that are owned by those who paid into the system and must be protected.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
Defense is the first and primary reason we have a federal government that binds our Sates into a Constitutional Federal Republic. Therefore Defense spending increases must be consistent with the economic growth of the Nation and the validated requirements from the Military. Defense spending must also be balanced against fraud and wasteful spending.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
I do not beleive that federal spending is a good means for promoting long term growth. However, during a declared emergency where State and Federal guidance and restrictions negatively impact economic growth I think it is appropriate for short term spending as part of a plan to mitigate the impact of the emegerncy.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
The Federal Government does not have a constitutional role in education. It would be better for the Federal Government to issue a set of guidelines that are based on predictive analysis and intended to influence the future educational needs of the Nation. Then allow Education to be delivered either through private or state programs that deliver to the parents and their students.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Unknown Position Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I support Federal Spending in accrodance with our constitution to promote the progress of the Science of renewable energy. Not federal funding that subsidizes industry. I promote the encouragement of reduced greeenhouse gas submissions based on science.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I will not support any law or proposed standard that limits your right as an individual to keep and bear Arms. The debate on public safety should be about the development and enforcement of laws that discourage and punish criminal behavior not laws that focus on a specific tool used by a criminal who commits' an act of evil.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
It is not the Federal Governments role to provide health care. The government can't "require" a business to shut down, then "require" that same business to provide paid medical leave.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
It is imperative that the United States close its borders and then allow entry through land, sea and air ports of entry only. The United States must also eliminate the incentives that encourage folks to enter illegally. Once the United States had reduced illegal entry, then we will be in a position to debate the next step for those who are here unlawfully.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
The United States should be fully vested with allies in preventing the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction by hostile or unstable governemnts. Military force along with all aspects of National Power must be available to the federal government in persuing this national security interest.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
However, there are opportunities where these tools must be used in the best interest of America, American economic growth and stability, and Americans.
(1) National Security: Border Security: Additional funding likely. Included in the annual Defense and Homeland Security Budgets. (2) Balanced Budget: No additional Funding. (3) Pro-Life: No additional funding.
