Virginia Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I am 100% pro-life from conception without exception, and I believe that government has a responsibility to protect all life in the womb. I don't believe that the way a child is conceived in any way diminishes the precious innocence of that life, and therefore our responsibility to protect and preserve it. I do not believe that abortion should be legal under any circumstances.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Our current Social Security system is unsustainable and must be reformed. While conservatives may disagree with whether or not we should have government-funded retirement, it is the system that we now have. Therefore, we need bi-partisan statesmen to work together to determine the right metrics to raise the full retirement age for those not currently retired or nearing retirement, means test the benefits for those with higher incomes, slow the annual percentage of growth in benefits, and continue to increase the income level that pays into the system; all in an effort to ensure the future viability of the program.
No Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I am in favor of disclosure, not regulation. I believe that campaign contributions are a form of free speech and expression, and it is therefore important that they be permitted and protected. However, it is very important that constituents are able to know via disclosure from whom a candidate is receiving support.
Yes Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
The most important role of the federal government is protection from foreign invasion. However, I believe that even the Defense Department should be held accountable for how it uses taxpayer dollars and should not have a blank check. I believe we should listen to our generals and civilian military leaders regarding what are the needs to ensure the U.S. maintains its position of military superiority among the nations of the world, while also constantly looking for opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiencies.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Federal spending does not stimulate economic growth, but rather it is an economic negative in respect to its impact on the national debt. Lowering corporate tax rates has a definite positive impact on economic growth. Unfortunately, I do recognize that effective targeted relief on a very limited basis was justified to help businesses survive this unprecedented government mandated shutdown from COVID-19. I am opposed to relief checks for those not impacted, and against paying people more in Unemployment than they were making before the crisis. I am totally against the most recent $3 trillion bill passed by House Democrats.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I will work to reduce or eliminate the federal government's involvement in education. I am against federal mandates and control of state and local education. I am in favor of eliminating the Department of Education.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I do believe that government can play a role in encouraging private development of renewal energy, but I don't believe that tax dollars should be used for this purpose. I also believe that government can play a role in encouraging reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, but I don't believe that the they should exercise this kind of control. It is unrealistic that we will ever move completely to renewable energy, and preserving access to fossil fuel sources is very important from an economic and national security standpoint.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I believe in and support the 2nd Amendment rights recognized in the Constitution, and do not support any restrictions on law-abiding citizens to exercise those rights. I fully respect our Founder's recognition that the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed upon, as a check against government tyranny and to ensure we remain a free people.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
I believe that market forces and private provision of healthcare and health insurance is the best method to provide the best options at the lowest prices for the greatest number of citizens. Government can facilitate many reforms in the best interest of citizens, such as creating more competition, ensuring portability, permitting companies to service across state lines, requiring upfront price and cost disclosure, eliminating surprise billing and addressing the ongoing suppression of free market health care services through Certificate of Public Need laws that remain in place in many states, notably in my home state of Virginia.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Our immigration system must ensure our national security & preserve our unique American culture. We must put Americans first, and require immigrants to learn English, demonstrate that they will be productive members of society, and embrace our values & culture. We must eliminate birthright citizenship, chain migration, diversity visas, and the visa lottery system. We must prioritize protecting jobs for American workers, and reduce visas to that which is truly needed and does not depress wages or eliminate opportunities for Americans. We must also exercise greater scrutiny of immigrants from nations with a demonstrated hostility toward America.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
We must recognize that radical Islam is at war with the United States and seeks our destruction, and work relentlessly to identify and eliminate the internal and external threats accordingly. We must maintain our strong support for Israel and help ensure their safety and survival, as one of our few true allies in the world and the only true democracy in the Middle East. While we should not be involved in occupation or nation-building, we must monitor threats to our security in the Middle East and mitigate or eliminate those threats as needed.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I do support FAIR trade and President Trump's efforts to level the playing field and stop permitting other countries to take advantage of America, American businesses, and American consumers. While free trade is the ideal, it is not sustainable without fair trade.
1 - I will be a champion for traditional conservative values and the Judeo-Christian principles upon which our nation was founded 2 - I will be a staunch defender of and advocate for an originalist adherence to the Constitution, as intended by our Founding Fathers 3 - I will work to eliminate illegal immigration and control legal immigration in a manner that prioritizes American workers and citizens, requires assimilation, and preserves and advances our unique American culture
