What is the Political Courage Test?

Florida Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Clearly recognize an individual woman's right to choose. This statement from a candidate who was born; then, adopted 49 days later by a family that took upon a journey of over a year, to find me, before my arrival.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
With aging population expanding federal funding will be necessity. At same time, Treasury Department reports federal spending exceeded $6 trillion for fiscal year and over half is debt. Total federal debt totaled 102% of GDP, exceeded size of economy for 1st full fiscal year in more than 70 years! Within that is over $2 trillion related CARES ACT. U.S.A. must work at being fastest in the world concept to market. 117th Congress needs to work with President for next generation tax code which creates future tax revenues making possible a balanced budget based on domestic capital investment in exportable products.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Role of Federal Election Commission (FEC) needs to be taken seriously by the 117th Congress and by the President. As a no party affiliation candidate, it would be a pleasure to play a role in the discussion about, and an amendment to, both the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) and Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA). When 3 of 6 members of FEC are not seated, what can Americans expect from their government and those that pursue/occupy its public offices? Full financial disclosure creates a level playing field. Democracy finds equilibrium, if ALL the information is known to ALL peeps.
Unknown Position Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Crime is not a person that doesn't dress like you walking down the street. Use of the term "defund the police" is used by opposing sides to invoke primal reactions. Call bullsh*t on the term. Believe the United States House of Representatives through their legislative "power of the purse", as well as state, and local governments, have long solved social/criminal injustice without such caustic phrases. Encourage allowing previously convicted felons that have served their debt to society be able to vote sooner, rather than later. That person is now contributing back to the community as an empowered citizen.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
United States should focus on increasing pay grades for all uniformed service members from enlisted, thru warrant officers, and officers. However, concerned that spending on platforms of legacy weapons systems may not be as important as spending on artificial intelligence ("AI") and quantum computing/communications. As a general rule, gravitate more toward investment in "gray matter", rather than kinetic solutions. Possessing situational awareness based on smart intelligence is paramount and will encourage such a culture though out our government.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Federal spending can help establish a direction for the private sector when no wind is in our collective sails. Evenly distributed federal support, in a national emergency, from Wall Street to Main Street is a required given. Solicited, and unsolicited, proposals from Public-Private Partnerships hold the answers the United States seeks to find with financial solutions to capital challenges like infrastructure. Encouraging global investment in the U.S. via the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program (visa) could play a helpful role in the required capital stacks of debt and equity. BTW, $15 federal minimum wage as "the floor" seems reasonable.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Education is the foundation for success of every American. U.S. can only be the pinnacle of economic prowess and innovation, if our people are educated. Great standards in pre-K, K and 1st grades, but increasingly flexibility at higher grade levels. Understanding the Federal government is only contributing about 13% of funds required for education pre-K through grade 12. Should consider modifications to tax code that would allow investors to underwrite capital costs of school construction. Funds would need to be aggregated/pooled statewide to avoid "wealthy" school districts from having an undo advantage over those that might face financial challenges.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
President Trump first failed the United States on this issue when in 2017 he withdrew our country from the Paris Agreement on climate change which was adopted in 2015 by 195 sovereign nations (interesting - the actual date of withdrawal is schedule for Nov 4 2020 the day after the general election). The United States was 1 of 147 ratifying; along with China who is now strategically using our exit to leverage against the U.S. on the world stage. Trump rollback of fuel-economy rules disrupted the capital expenditure plans of all automakers so as to sell more fossil fuels.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes, on 2nd Amendment. Require sale of all firearms in United States be documented and recorded within national database searchable by any licensed dealer and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). However, citizens that do not have the mental ability to own a firearm should be prevented from owning as core responsibility of a functional society. Firearm safety should be taught beginning pre-K. NO different than water safety for toddlers and drivers-ed for teenagers. Minors need to understand from earliest age. STOP! Don't touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult. Respect for firearms is reasonable expectation of all.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Healthcare is cabal of providers (profit & not-for-profit), Big Pharma, manufacturers, oh, and patients. Unknown what legislation will be debated as part of 117th Congress, but will advocate for "veterans to the front of the line" in all efforts. Any veteran should be able to visit any healthcare facility and be treated immediately for both acute and existing injuries with no co-pay. Advocate shortening of drug patents and exclusivity, thereby bringing competition to marketplace sooner, rather than later. And, while hybrid system is best for majority of Americans, a single payer solution will probably be required for least of us.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
We're not putting more kids in cages and we're not building more sections of ineffective, and ill-conceived, wall. Suspect undocumented illegal immigrants in FL's 6th congressional are similar to national estimate of 14%. Immigration system needs to be modernized while preserving rule of law. At same time, understand workers in/around employment centers like "The Fern Capital of the World" located in Florida's 6th congressional are backbone of industry. Most important goal in all of this easily identifiable path to legal status for tens of millions already calling the U.S.A. home, as well as a mechanism to quickly return violent offenders.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
No Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Sworn foreign enemies reach into our electronic public squares disguised as equals among us sowing discontent with our achievements and creating fear out of our differences. United States, and its citizens, will continue to be digitally challenged personally, and as a democracy, with cyber attacks designed to weaken our physical infrastructure and confuse real arguments. Hope to provide the leadership in Washington, D.C., to help get us (U.S.) ahead of this curve. Hot spots like the Afghan-Pakistani area of the world will continue to require the United States' boots on the ground to stay the course with superior fighting force.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
Americans love low prices at the cash register, but when you make your living growing tomatoes in Florida you might see differently such a simple transaction for groceries. Expect Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act (USMCA) to be the law, the framework, for North American trade for some time. Expect minor modifications, or tweaks, to be proposed by the parties to the agreement with particular focus on digital trade.
Will always champion government in the digital sunshine... everything else will take care of itself. United States was the first nation built on the enlightenment provided by such devices as Gutenberg's printing press which allowed the Continental Congress to crank out, and distribute, 200 broadsides to thirteen states within days. Can only imagine what our Founding Fathers might have done with The Declaration of Independence and a Twitter handle. The speed and efficiency that twenty-first century technology offers our democracy is inspiring. Americans understand and will never again allowing the nobility of priests and princes to decide our fates!
