Ahead Of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mucarsel-Powell Releases Statement Calling To Recognize Hispanic Impact During COVID-19 f t # e Washington, September 14, 2020 MIAMI, FL -- Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), the first Ecuadorian immigrant Member of Congress and member of the Hispanic Caucus, released the following statement ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month: "This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the spirit and resilience of the Latino community, which has been on full display during the coronavirus pandemic. Hispanic first responders, doctors, nurses, farm workers, teachers, and every other frontline worker will not only lead the recovery of our country, but have been actively working to keep our economic engine running," said Mucarsel-Powell. "Nearly 70% of all of Florida's Hispanic businesses are in South Florida, the nation's third largest Latino community is in Florida, and over 604,000 Hispanic-owned businesses across the state contribute over $90 billion to Florida's economy each year. I will continue to elevate the stories of Floridians who have made important contributions to our community, and I commit to supporting policies that honor these contributions. In order to ensure we continue to uplift opportunities for every Floridian, we must expand healthcare, create jobs, end political corruption, protect Dreamers, and expand TPS." ###
