Fischer Hails Passage of First Balanced Budget Since 2001

Statement

Date: May 5, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

This evening, the United States Senate passed the first balanced budget in over a decade. U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) voted in favor of the final resolution, which has now been agreed upon by both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Senator Fischer released the following statement this evening:

"I'm pleased to announce that for the first time in over a decade, Congress has passed a balanced budget. This allows us to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars while adhering to three basic rules: cut spending, balance the budget, and do it all without raising taxes.

"This budget forces Washington to live within its means -- just as Nebraska families must do every day. To do this, our budget makes significant spending cuts over the next 10 years. It also ensures that taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly, so that each day we are moving our country forward -- rather than adding burdens on our families."
