Woodall Votes to Defend Life, Defund Planned Parenthood

Statement

Date: Sept. 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Today, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall issued the following statement regarding his support for the "Defund Planned Parenthood Act" and the "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act." H.R. 3134 and H.R. 3504 respectively both passed the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Today, the House took a strong stance on both the defense of life and government accountability," said Rep. Woodall. "It is tragic the need for such legislation exists at all, but I'm proud to stand with those offering a voice for the most vulnerable among us."

"This issue goes to the very core of our nation's character and speaks to who we are as a people," Woodall continued. "What we have seen from these Planned Parenthood videos -- a group profiting from the sale of human hearts, lungs, livers, and glands; even discussing the sale of fully intact brains of unborn babies -- is horrific. Congress' commitment to women's health is in no way diminished by opposing the barbarism of Planned Parenthood. With this vote, we take every penny that is going to Planned Parenthood today and move it to the trusted caregivers in the nation's rural and community health centers."

"Americans are divided on the issue of the federal funding of health care. Americans are divided on the issue of life and abortion. But Americans are united in our revulsion when exposed to videos of Planned Parenthood's activities."

Congressman Woodall represents the Seventh Congressional District of Georgia, which includes the majority of Forsyth and Gwinnett counties, and currently serves as Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process, as well as serving on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and Budget Committee.
