Fleming Responds To Government's Warning Against Defunding PP

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services warned officials in Louisiana that plans to defund Planned Parenthood may be illegal.

"I find it alarming that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is quick to say our state is breaking the law by defunding Planned Parenthood, and yet refuses to investigate them even after six incriminating videos have clearly shown the organization manipulating abortion procedures, selling infant remains following an abortion, and evading patient consent regulations. It's ironic that HHS is so quick to protect an organization with a public record of seemingly illegal behavior. There are over one hundred federally qualified health centers (FQHC) across the state that provide valuable services to women, without profiting from abortions. States retain the right to choose which services and providers taxpayer dollars are funding, and Planned Parenthood shouldn't be one of them. I stand with Louisiana in saying 'no' to federal government funding for America's largest abortion provider."
