Rokita- Presidential Veto Dishonors Our Troops and Thwarts Entitlement Reform

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Todd Rokita (IN-04) issued the following statement after President Obama officially vetoed H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act, (NDAA):

"It is shameful that the same President who fought Congress to fund Iran's terrorist army is now fighting Congress to defund the United States Military in order to gain leverage for his increased spending demands.

"The negotiating team worked hard to fight for programs that benefit the military and address our out of control spending," said Rep. Rokita.

As a conferee, Rep. Rokita helped negotiate a number of reforms to address our military entitlement programs. Examples of spending reform include troop pension fixes that reduce government expenditures by approximately twenty-percent, while still offering flexible, market-based retirement benefits to a larger number of veterans.

"The President's veto reinforces that the President is not about leading our troops, but continuing to drive our country into the ground with unsustainable debt and an uncertain military future," added Rokita.
