Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34) released a statement following the first day of the 2016 open enrollment period to sign up for health insurance:

"This week marks the start of the third season of Open Enrollment for the Affordable Care Act. I encourage everyone in my district to sign up for health insurance with Covered California. Getting covered is easier than ever with financial and in-person assistance available.

"Since the Affordable Care Act became law, more than 18 million Americans have secured affordable health care. More than 2 million Californians have received health insurance today through Covered California and 90% of those who enroll benefit from tax credits that reduce the cost of care. Across the country, 70% of Americans re-enrolling in a plan this year are expected to get covered for $75 a month or less.

"Nothing beats the peace of mind that comes with knowing that a visit to the doctor or hospital won't lead to bankruptcy. If you sign up by December 15th, you will begin the new year with coverage that could cost you less than your monthly cell phone bill. Don't delay!"
