Fleming: President Jeopardizing National Security

Statement

Date: Oct. 22, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after President Obama vetoed the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to fund our nation's military:

"Despite passing with large, bipartisan majorities in both the Senate and the House and giving the President every dollar he requested for our military, the President vetoed the NDAA because of budget issues outside the contents of the bill: he wants more money to fund politically motivated priorities such as Obamacare, executive amnesty, Planned Parenthood, and green energy subsidies.

"This is unconscionable. The NDAA would ensure our soldiers are equipped to meet increasing national security threats that have resulted from the President's failed foreign policy, like ISIS and Russia. It also strengthens the Air Force's nuclear enterprise and Global Strike Command at Barksdale Air Force Base and helps the Army avoid harmful troop reductions affecting Fort Polk.

"The next step is to override his veto. The Senate has the votes and we are only a handful shy in the House. Now is the time to tell this President that National Defense is a priority."
