Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Statement on ESEA Conference Committee Vote

Statement

Date: Nov. 20, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) releases the following statement after the House-Senate conference committee approved the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA):

"While no bill is perfect, I believe the ESEA compromise is a step in the right direction. I am pleased it protects Title I funding, assures equitable allocation of resources to schools, recognizes the importance of after-school education, and maintains subgroup disaggregation of data for reporting. This framework strikes the right balance and serves the best interests of our nation's students.

"I thank House and Senate Education Committee Chairmen John Kline (MN-2) and Lamar Alexander (TN), and House and Senate Education Committee Ranking Members Bobby Scott (VA-3) and Patty Murray (WA), for their leadership. I am proud to support this bicameral, bipartisan measure to improve public education for our students, parents, teachers and communities."

Congresswoman Fudge is Ranking Member of the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
