Chairman Becerra Statement on Retirement of Rep. Jim Mcdermott

Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34) released a statement following the announcement that Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-07) will not seek reelection:

"It has been a pleasure to serve with Representative Jim McDermott in Congress for more than 20 years. I have admired his work as a friend and colleague on the Ways and Means Committee, his stalwart advocacy for single payer healthcare and his dedication and fight for working families.

"Long before it was popular, Jim was a leader willing to speak his mind with clarity and uncommon candor. The people of the state of Washington have been fortunate to have his voice in the Halls of Congress.

"I wish Jim the best as he embarks on his next adventure. We will miss him."
