Issue Position: Fiscal Policy

Issue Position

Government governs best when it creates a fair and legal environment for good people to dream, invest, build and succeed. And then it gets out of the way.

"Every time a bill comes across their desk, our political leaders should ask themselves, 'Does this bill discourage job creation?'" states Carlton. "If it does, then the bill probably creates regulation that interferes with the free market and/or raises taxes."

The free market is the best tool available to respond to market changes and the needs of the individual. It ensures fairness. It creates competition, which keeps the price of goods lower. It stimulates innovation. It encourages business growth -- both for small businesses and larger companies. Most of all, the free market has proven to provide a better standard of living than other economic ideologies.

The free market allows all of us to pursue the American Dream.

In recent years, government has increasingly tried to control the free market. Every time government tries to manipulate the free market, there are unintended consequences that end up costing the taxpayer even more.

Common sense tells us that more taxation hurts our economy and discourages job creation. A good government provides the framework for individual creativity and ingenuity and then gets out of the way. A good government operates within its means, just like families and businesses. More often than not, budget imbalances can be fixed with budget cuts rather than tax increases.
