Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

As a teacher, education will of course be a priority. We should not take a one size first all approach to education. Every student is unique, something which Common Core and Race to the Top fails to recognize. In Congress, I will use my experience in the classroom to implement policies that cater to the individual needs of students, and which lessens the unrealistic demands placed on teachers. I know what works, and I know what doesn't.

I also understand education is not a primary function of the Federal Government. We must maintain state and local input in the curriculum. More importantly, we need the input of parents. Allowing parents to help decide what is best for their children makes sense too. As a Member of Congress, I will support programs that gives parents the ability to send their children to public or charter schools.
