Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06), joined by several members of the Florida congressional delegation, sent a letter today to Florida Governor Rick Scott, House Speaker Steve Crisafulli, and Senate President Andy Gardiner, commending the state legislature for their strong sanctions against Iran. Having not been either ratified as a treaty or adopted as statutory law, the nuclear deal that the Obama Administration has negotiated with Iran cannot preempt the policies of states such as Florida.

"The Obama-Kerry deal with Iran is dangerous for America's national security but it is not binding law," DeSantis said. "State-based sanctions such as those enacted in Florida cannot be overridden by this executive agreement and therefore serve a critical role in protecting the security of the American people. I commend Florida and other states that have enacted these policies."
