Statement

Date: Jan. 12, 2016
Location: Washington, D.C.

"Tonight, the President focused on America's future. We have made great progress in many key areas over the past seven years, including record levels of sustained economic growth, historic social change creating greater equality for all, and of course unprecedented access to affordable health care for over 17 million Americans. His legacy is undeniable and unparalleled. I think the President laid a solid blueprint that will capitalize on his achievements, greatness, and promise of our nation. His speech not only covered a range of the nation's issues confronting working families, whether climate change, education and its cost, terrorism, healthcare or a cure for cancer. It was a message of a better future, fairness, and democracy for all people, because we rise or fall together" said Beatty.

Beatty invited former Columbus, Ohio Mayor Michael Coleman as her guest for the historic address. Mayor Coleman was the first African-American mayor of Columbus and with 16-years of service was the longest-serving mayor in the city's history.
