Rokita Questions CBO Director on Debt

Press Release

Date: Feb. 4, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee, Representative Todd Rokita participated in a committee hearing on the economic outlook of the United States. The witness at the hearing was Keith Hall, Director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

"As the House Budget Committee works to craft the FY 2017 Budget, we must hear from the experts on the fiscal realities our nation faces. The CBO Director testified that for the first time since 2011, projected government deficits have increased. This has happened despite the federal government drawing in a record $3.2 trillion in revenues in 2015. It is clear that the federal government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

"I came to Washington to fight for policies that reduce our debt, balance our budget, and curb the federal government's spending addiction. Washington needs to learn from the families and businesses across the country that work hard to balance their budgets. The $19 trillion national debt is an immoral burden on the children of tomorrow. The Budget Committee recognizes the need to end reckless government spending and our budget will reflect this," said Representative Rokita.

Keith Hall was appointed Director of the CBO last year. Hall is a graduate of Purdue University. He earned both a master's degree (1983) and doctorate (1986) in economics from Purdue's Krannert School of Management. Purdue University is in West Lafayette, Indiana and part of Indiana's 4th Congressional District.
