Rep. Carson Comments on Trump's Continued Anti-Muslim Rhetoric

Statement

Today, Rep. André Carson (D-IN), the first Muslim Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement:

"I am deeply troubled by the anti-Muslim rhetoric used by Donald Trump in his campaign for President. It is disturbing that a man seeking the highest office in the land, would exploit recent terrorist attacks to advance his own political agenda. At a time when incidents of hate and violence against American Muslims are on the rise, these provocative statements are highly irresponsible.

"Far too often our candidates play to fears and prejudices. A true leader rises above this and focuses on the potential of all Americans to move our country forward.

"Anti-Muslim rhetoric has gone far enough. It's time for all of our leaders, in both parties, to denounce it and present a vision that unites us all."
