Congresswoman Adams Statement on Reauthorization of Export-Import Bank

Statement

Date: Oct. 27, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Alma S. Adams (NC-12) today released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 597, legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank for the next four years:

"Since 2009, the Export-Import Bank has supported 1.3 million private sector jobs. In the 12th District alone, from 2007 to 2014, more than 28 companies, 800 jobs and more than $123 million in exports were supported by the Export-Import Bank.

"American companies deserve a fair chance at success -- and the Export-Import Bank is critical in providing that chance. Since the Export-Import Bank's charter expired in June, we have lost hundreds of jobs. Today, I was pleased to join 312 of my colleagues in putting our small businesses first, by reauthorizing this critical agency."

The Export-Import Bank is an independent agency that supports the exporting of U.S. goods and services, often taking on clients the private sector won't. Nearly 90 percent of the Export-Import Bank's transactions are with American small businesses. Just last year alone, the Export-Import Bank supported 164,000 jobs in America.
